19th Century Fede Ring

$6,000.00

The original ‘engagement ring’ the Fede design features three rings attached at the bottom with two hands clasped over two hearts and fully articulated to open and close. This ring came from a British estate and is crafted from 15kt yellow gold. The term Fede comes from the Italian “mani in fede” meaning ‘hands in faith or fidelity’ making these rings the most popular betrothal rings in the 16th and 17th century, however the iconography of two clasped hands as a symbol of commitment and marriage has roots dating back to the Roman times.
